2025 AFCON: Hossam Hassan announces Egypt squad for tournament
The Egyptian national team, led by Hossam Hassan, has named its squad for the December training camp as preparations intensify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, scheduled from 21 December to 18 January.
The camp will start on 3 December, with attention quickly turning to fitness, cohesion and tactical balance before the tournament kicks off. The big news for fans is the return of Al Ahly star Emam Ashour to the squad after a spell out, adding extra creativity and energy in midfield.
The list includes a strong goalkeeping group: Mohamed El Shenawy, Ahmed El Shenawy, Mostafa Shobier and Mohamed Sobhi. In defence, Hossam Hassan has called up Mohamed Hany, Ahmed Eid, Ramy Rabia, Khaled Sobhi, Yasser Ibrahim, Mohamed Ismail, Hossam Abdelmaguid, Mohamed Hamdy and Ahmed Fattouh.
The midfield is packed with options such as Marwan Attia, Hamdy Fathy, Mohanad Lasheen, Mahmoud Saber, Mohamed Shehata, Emam Ashour, Ahmed Sayed Zizo, Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, Ibrahim Adel, Mostafa Fathi, Omar Marmoush, and Mohamed Salah, while the attack features Mostafa Mohamed, Salah Mohsen and Osama Faisal.
Team manager Ibrahim Hassan explained that the final AFCON squad will be sent to CAF on 11 December, with the camp initially open from 3 to 7 December before becoming a closed camp ahead of a friendly against Nigeria on 14 December at Cairo Stadium.
The team will then travel to Morocco on 17 December for the final phase of preparation. Egypt begin their AFCON campaign on 22 December against Zimbabwe, then face South Africa on 26 December and Angola on 29 December, as the Pharaohs chase a long-awaited continental title last won in 2010.
