Zambia’s Copper Queens have secured a place in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over DR Congo on Saturday evening in Rabat.
The result sees Zambia finish second in Group A with seven points, level with hosts Morocco, who edge them on goal difference.
DR Congo put up a spirited performance, forcing Zambia to dig deep in a tense and tactical game. The Copper Queens were well-organized defensively, absorbing pressure and keeping their shape throughout the match.
The decisive moment came in the first half when the ever-reliable Racheal Kundananji found the back of the net. Her sharp finish proved enough, as Zambia managed the game with discipline and composure.
DR Congo changed tactics to try and get back into the game, but Zambia stood firm to secure the win.
