South Africa head coach Desiree Ellis lauded the Black Queens for their strong performance despite her team’s 2-0 win on Sunday.
Ghana fell to a 2-0 defeat in their opening Group C match of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
After the game, Ellis recognized the threat posed by the Ghanaian side and praised their resilience on the pitch.
“Ghana is a quality team, and we must give them credit,” Ellis said. “The first 15 minutes were crucial — had we conceded early, it could have changed the whole game. But we stayed focused, took control, and achieved the result we wanted.”
Banyana Banyana now shift their attention to their next Group C clash against Tanzania on Friday, July 11, aiming to secure qualification for the tournament’s knockout stages.
Ghana, meanwhile, will face Mali at the Stade Municipal de Berkane on Friday, with kickoff set for 16:00 GMT
