Nigeria’s Super Falcons made a strong start to the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament on Sunday evening, thumping Tunisia 3-0 in their first match.
The West African giants are among the favourites being backed to clinch the trophy.
Today, the Super Falcons lived up to that tag and dominated Tunisia in their Group B opener.
Star forward Asisat Oshoala scored after just four minutes into the first half with an assist from Rinsola Babajide.
Late in the first half, Rinsola Babajide was presented with a good chance and equalised to double the Nigerians’ lead.
In control of the match at halftime, the Super Falcons continued to dominate in the second half, giving the Tunisians no chance to get back into the game.
A strike by Chinwendu Ihehu after she was set up by Esther Okoronkwo in the 84th minute sealed the big victory for the Super Falcons.
The big win has given Nigeria control in Group B ahead of their second match against Botswana on July 10.
The Super Falcons will end their group campaign with a last match against Algeria.
