The Black Queens are through to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a confident 4-1 win against Tanzania on Monday evening.
Ghana went into the match needing a win and a favorable result in the other Group C clash. They did their part with a powerful display against the Twiga Stars in a must-win game.
Princella Adubea opened the scoring for Ghana in the 13th minute, giving the Queens an early boost. Tanzania responded in the 41st minute through Stumai Abdallah Athumani, who finished off a pass from Enekia Lunyamila.
After halftime, Ghana pushed harder and regained the lead in the 64th minute when Alice Kusi converted from the penalty spot. The Black Queens took full control late in the game.
Substitute Evelyn Badu made it 3-1 in the 87th minute, latching onto a pass from Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah. Boye-Hlorkah then capped a fine performance by scoring Ghana’s fourth, her debut goal for the national team.
Ghana finished second in Group C behind South Africa and will now face Algeria in the quarterfinals.
