Ghana midfielder Grace Asantewaa has expressed her pride and excitement following the Black Queens’ qualification to the semi-finals of the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Asantewaa, who played a key role in Ghana’s quarter-final showdown against Algeria, was instrumental in midfield as the team battled their way to victory. After a hard-fought contest that ended in a stalemate, the Black Queens held their nerve during the penalty shootout, securing a 4-2 win to seal their place in the final four.
The performance earned Asantewaa the Woman of the Match award.
Speaking after the game, she could hardly contain her joy.
“I’m extremely excited and proud that we’ve made it to this stage,” she said. “Ghana has been waiting a long time for this, and we’ve mentally prepared ourselves for the challenge. We knew it was a do-or-die situation, and we rose to the occasion.”
With the quarter-final hurdle cleared, the Black Queens now turn their focus to a highly anticipated semi-final clash with host nation Morocco.
The semi-final showdown between Ghana and Morocco will be played on Tuesday, July 22.
