2024 WAFCON: Botswana score late to stun Tunisia with a 2-1 win
Botswana came from behind on Sunday night to secure a delightful 2-1 win against Tunisia at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament.
The women’s teams of the two countries locked horns today in their final Group B encounter of the WAFCON ongoing in Morocco.
In the high-stakes game, Tunisia had a bright start to the match and scored through Yesmine Khanchouch after just 12 minutes to take the lead.
Despite the several other chances created in the remainder of the first half, neither side could score again before the break.
After recess, Botswana came in strong in their bid to turn things around. The efforts of the team paid off with a first goal coming in the 66th minute, thanks to a strike from Lesego Radiakanyo after she was assisted by Mokgabo Thanda.
Late in added time, Botswana won the game with a second equaliser courtesy of Gaonyadiwe Ontlametse after she was set up by Refilwe Tholakele.

Despite the win, Botswana finished third in Group C with three points. The side has a chance of advancing to the knockout stage of the tournament as one of the two best third-placed teams.
