Zimbabwe responded strongly after their opening-day draw, securing a 2-1 away victory over Zambia on the second day of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Warriors initially took the lead, with Khama Billiat finding the net to give Zimbabwe an early advantage. Zambia, eager to bounce back after a heavy 5-0 defeat to Algeria in their opening match, responded quickly. Paston Daka, fresh from his exploits at the U23 Africa Cup of Nations, scored a superb goal to level the match before halftime.
The second half saw an energetic home crowd urging Zambia forward, but Zimbabwe’s goalkeeper, Chipezeze, delivered a series of key saves to keep his team in the game. In the final moments, Khama Billiat struck again, scoring a decisive brace and sealing the 2-1 victory for the visitors.
This result leaves Zambia without a point after two matches, while Zimbabwe climbs to 4 points, just behind Algeria, who tops the group with 6 points. Botswana remains in fourth place with 1 point, highlighting the competitive nature of this AFCON qualifying group.
