Sierra Leone is set to kick off their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign against Lesotho, with coach Sellas Tetteh naming an 18-man squad on Wednesday. Most of the players called up were also part of the team that faced Liberia in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, providing continuity as the Leone Stars aim to start their AFCON campaign strongly.
Notably, goalkeeper John Trye returns to the national team after a long absence. The Scarborough SC player last appeared for Sierra Leone in 2014 against the Democratic Republic of Congo. Kwame Quee, who scored Sierra Leone’s only goal in their defeat to Liberia last September, has also been included in the squad.
Sierra Leone will face Lesotho at Siaka Steven Stadium on November 13 and travel to play Benin on November 17 for the first two matches of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers. The squad combines experience from domestic and international leagues, with players plying their trade across Europe, North America, and Asia.
