Mauritania continued their strong start to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a 2-0 home victory over the Central African Republic on Tuesday. Building on their impressive performance against Morocco in the opening round, the Mourabitounes were composed and efficient against the visiting Wild Beasts.
The first goal came courtesy of El Hacen El Id, who expertly converted a cross from Adama Ba to give the home side a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Mauritania maintained control throughout the second half, dictating the pace of the game while the Central African Republic struggled to create meaningful chances.
The hosts doubled their advantage when Dialo Guidileye found the net, sealing the 2-0 victory. Despite their efforts, François Zahoui’s team could not find a way back into the match, leaving Mauritania with a comfortable win.
With this result, Mauritania climbs to 4 points in Group E, keeping close pressure on Morocco, who secured a 3-0 win over Burundi earlier in the day. The Mourabitounes’ combination of disciplined defense and clinical finishing demonstrates their determination to remain competitive in the group and continue their push for AFCON qualification.
