Ghana produced a solid performance on the second day of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, narrowly defeating São Tomé and Príncipe 1-0. After dominating possession and creating several chances, the Black Stars struggled to convert their superiority into goals in the first half, leaving the match finely balanced at the break.
The breakthrough came shortly after halftime. A mistake by São Tomé’s goalkeeper Eusebio led to a penalty, which Jordan Ayew calmly converted to give Ghana the lead. From that point, the Black Stars controlled the match, limiting their opponents’ opportunities and preserving their advantage, though they were unable to extend the lead further.
Ghana’s win, coupled with South Africa’s 1-0 victory over Sudan on Sunday, places the Black Stars at the top of their group with six points. Despite the narrow scoreline, Ghana’s dominance and discipline in defense underline their status as strong contenders in the qualifying campaign.
