Morocco bounced back strongly against Burundi with a 3-0 victory in the second round of 2021 AFCON qualifiers, following their goalless draw against Mauritania.
The Atlas Lions opened the scoring through Noussair Mazraoui in the 27th minute, before Youssef En-Nesyri doubled the lead in the 39th minute. Achraf Hakimi sealed the win with the third goal, giving Morocco a convincing victory.
Defender Badr Benoun, who did not feature in the match, expressed his pride in the team’s performance:
“We had no choice. The national team absolutely had to beat Burundi. We were on par against Mauritania, but victory eluded us. Everyone has faith in this young Moroccan team.”
This first win of the qualifiers puts Morocco at the top of Group E provisionally, boosting confidence as they continue their campaign for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
