The first day of Group B in the 2019 WAFU B Women’s Tournament at the Parc des Sports in Treichville saw an explosion of goals, with Nigeria and Mali dominating their respective matches.
In the opening game, the Super Falcons overwhelmed Burkina Faso 5-1. Grace Kanu starred with a hat-trick, while Evelyn Nwabuoko and Amarachi Okoronkwo also contributed to the scoreline. Charlotte Millogo managed a late consolation goal for the Stallions, but it was little more than a footnote in Nigeria’s commanding performance.
The second match of the day was equally one-sided, as Mali, who reached the semi-finals at the last Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, demolished Niger 12-0. Striker Bassira Touré was the standout, netting four goals in a dominant display.
Both Nigeria and Mali sent a strong statement in their opening matches, asserting their status as Group B favorites and setting the tone for the rest of the tournament.
