Ivory Coast made an impressive start to the 2019 WAFU B Women’s Tournament, cruising to a 5-0 victory over Togo in their opening match on Wednesday at the Robert Champroux Stadium in Abidjan.
The hosts set the tone early, with Rolande Houane converting a penalty in the 10th minute to give the Elephants the lead. Diakite Binta doubled the advantage in the 26th minute, and Cousso Esperance added a third goal before halftime, putting Ivory Coast firmly in control.
In the second half, the Epervières maintained their dominance, successfully neutralizing Togo’s attacks. Ange Kogo N’Guessan, lively throughout the match, extended the lead, and Kouadio Sandrine completed the rout with a stoppage-time goal, sealing a convincing win for the host nation.
Meanwhile, Group A action also features a match between Ghana and Senegal, with both teams looking to establish themselves early in the tournament.
