Algeria capped off a perfect 2019 with another victory in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers, maintaining their undefeated streak for the year.

On November 18, the reigning African champions secured a 1-0 win against Botswana in Gaborone, marking their 14th victory of the year. Under the guidance of coach Djamel Belmadi, Algeria’s golden generation, led by Riyad Mahrez, delivered an exceptional season: 18 matches played, 14 wins, and 4 draws.

Earlier in July, Algeria had been crowned 2019 Africa Cup of Nations champions in Cairo, a triumph that highlighted their dominance throughout the year. The team’s consistency and cohesion were key factors in their unbeaten run, showcasing their quality at both continental and international levels.

Having finished 2019 on a high, the Fennecs now turn their attention to the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. Ranked 38th in the FIFA world rankings, Algeria will begin the second preliminary round in March 2020, embarking on a new challenge to secure a spot in Qatar.

2019 was truly a golden year for Algerian football, combining continental glory with remarkable consistency and laying a solid foundation for future international campaigns.
