While Riyad Mahrez and Yacine Brahimi are often highlighted as Algeria’s most dangerous players in major tournaments, Kenya coach Sébastien Migné believes there is another Fennecs attacker who deserves equal attention. Ahead of Kenya’s Group C clash against Algeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Migné singled out Baghdad Bounedjah as a player who poses a serious threat despite receiving less public recognition.
“Everyone is focused on Mahrez or Brahimi, whereas I think Bounedjah is the least known except that I consider him among the best strikers in the world,” Migné said, as reported by Le Buteur. His comments underline the respect the Kenyan coach has for Algeria’s attacking depth, signaling that the Fennecs have multiple offensive options capable of deciding a match.
Bounedjah, while less celebrated internationally than Mahrez or Brahimi, has consistently proven his scoring ability at club and national levels. Migné’s warning suggests that Kenya will need to prepare for the full range of Algeria’s attacking threats, not just the headline stars, in order to compete effectively in this opening AFCON fixture.
