Tunisia’s preparations for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations continue to impress. Following a 2-0 win over Iraq, the Eagles of Carthage stunned Croatia, the 2018 World Cup runners-up, with a 2-1 victory in Varazdin. Despite fielding a youthful squad, Croatia featured several key players from their World Cup campaign, including captain Luka Modric, who came on as a substitute but couldn’t prevent the defeat.
Tunisia’s goals came from Badri in the 16th minute and Naim Sliti from the penalty spot in the 70th minute. This resounding win demonstrates the team’s growing confidence and cohesion under coach Alain Giresse, giving a major boost to Wahbi Khazri and his teammates ahead of the AFCON.
The final friendly before the tournament will see Tunisia face Burundi on June 17, after which they will focus on their Group E fixtures, where they will compete against Angola, Mali, and Mauritania. This preparation run highlights Tunisia’s readiness to challenge for a strong showing in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
