The Carthage Eagles of Tunisia have concluded their preparation for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on a high note, finishing their training camp with an impressive friendly victory over Burundi.
In Radès, Alain Giresse’s squad faced stiff resistance from the Burundian side. The first half ended goalless, with the Swallows of Burundi holding strong. The breakthrough came in the 66th minute, when Taha Yassine Khessini put Tunisia ahead. Burundi responded ten minutes later through Cédric Amissi, leveling the score at 1-1. Just when it seemed the match would end in a draw, Naim Sliti produced a moment of brilliance in the dying minutes, securing a dramatic 2-1 victory for the hosts.
This win marked Tunisia’s third consecutive success in their friendly matches, following a 2-0 triumph against Iraq and a notable 2-1 victory over Croatia. Such results have given the Carthage Eagles a significant confidence boost as they prepare to compete on the continental stage.
Drawn in Group E alongside Mali, Mauritania, and Angola, Tunisia will kick off their AFCON campaign on Monday, June 24, against Angola’s Palancas Negras at 5 PM GMT. The team will be looking to carry the momentum from their friendly successes into the tournament and establish themselves as serious contenders in the group stage.
With a blend of tactical discipline and attacking flair, Tunisia’s preparation suggests that the Eagles are ready to challenge their group opponents and aim for a deep run in the competition.
