Paul-Georges Ntep will not be part of Cameroon’s AFCON campaign, having failed to convince the technical staff during this first stage of preparation. Alongside him, Petrus Boumal, Edgar Salli, Jérôme Onguene, Jean-Pierre Nsame, and Fabrice Olinga have also been released from the squad. These cuts are a clear indication that no place in the Cameroonian squad is guaranteed, regardless of past reputation or experience. As part of this phase, Cameroon are scheduled to play a friendly match against Alcorcón, a club competing in Spain’s second division. This fixture is expected to offer Seedorf and his staff another valuable opportunity to observe players in a match environment, test combinations, and refine systems ahead of the tournament.
The Spanish camp represents only the first step in a longer preparation process. After this stage, the Indomitable Lions will move on to a second training camp in Qatar. It is there that the competition for places will intensify even further. Seedorf has already confirmed that six more players will be cut following the Qatar camp, a move that will bring the squad closer to its final shape. Each training session and friendly match will therefore carry enormous weight, as players seek to secure their place on the plane to the Africa Cup of Nations.
These successive reductions highlight the transitional period Cameroon are currently undergoing.
