Morocco will head to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations without Amine Harit. The Schalke 04 midfielder, who struggled throughout the season, was left out of Hervé Renard’s 23-man squad. Reacting to the news on Twitter, Harit expressed his disappointment while showing support for the national team: “Disappointed not to be on the final list but I will be your biggest supporter my brothers. I wish you success inshallah. We are all behind you. I hope you will make us proud.”
Harit, born in France but choosing to represent Morocco in September 2017, was part of Morocco’s squad at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. However, his form this season has been underwhelming. The 21-year-old played just 18 matches for Schalke 04, scoring one goal and providing a single assist, failing to make the impact expected of him. His exclusion from the AFCON squad reflects both his difficult club season and Renard’s decision to prioritize players in better form for the continental tournament.
Despite this setback, Harit remains committed to supporting Morocco from the sidelines, emphasizing his loyalty to the Atlas Lions and hoping that his teammates make the nation proud during the competition. His absence will be felt in midfield, but the squad still boasts several experienced and in-form players capable of carrying Morocco deep into the tournament.
