Ivory Coast Faces Player Absences Ahead of Gabon Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier
Ivory Coast’s coaching staff is currently facing difficulties gathering players for the crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Gabon on June 14 in Libreville.
Several players have expressed their dissatisfaction with the match being scheduled in Gabon, while Ivory Coast is officially the host for this fixture. This has led to a lack of enthusiasm, with some players unreachable and others openly declaring they will miss the game.
The Elephants were expected to begin training sessions last Sunday, but low morale has delayed preparations. An Ivorian football official confirmed the challenge: “Some executives are even unreachable. Others have made it clear that they will not be able to attend.”
In response, Ivory Coast’s interim coach and the president of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) have started negotiations to convince the squad to commit. A FIF leader reassured fans, saying, “The president is talking with some players. Don’t worry, everyone will be present in Libreville.”
However, notable players such as Serge Aurier have already announced their intention to miss the match, adding to the uncertainty ahead of this important qualifier.
