According to the Brazilian newspaper Estado de São Paulo, Jerome Valcke, the Secretary of FIFA, received a salary from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) in 2007 to influence the organization of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Valcke allegedly signed a contract for $100,000 in February 2007 to assist with the World Cup organization, despite no longer working for FIFA at that time. Valcke had previously served as FIFA’s marketing director but had his contract terminated in 2006 due to issues with the Mastercard-Visa file. The newspaper claims that Valcke was aware at the time that he would eventually return to FIFA to assist Joseph Blatter in his role.
