Algeria s Friendly Against Romania Marred by Fan Disorder in Geneva
Algeria narrowly escaped a potential abandonment of their friendly match against Romania in Geneva on Wednesday due to unruly fan behavior. Supporters of the Fennecs, in large numbers, disrupted the game by throwing objects onto the pitch, including a milk carton aimed at the referee. The match was halted in the 43rd minute as a result.
Before the teams headed into the break, Algeria’s coach Vahid Halilhodzic took to the microphone to appeal for calm and control among the fans. Thanks to his intervention, play resumed in the second half, with Algeria eventually securing a 2-1 victory.
However, the troubles continued after the final whistle when fans stormed the pitch. This was not an isolated incident; similar pitch invasions occurred just days earlier following Algeria’s 2-1 win over Armenia last Saturday.
The repeated disruptions have raised concerns over crowd management and the safety of players and officials during international fixtures involving Algeria’s national team.
