Ghana to Face South Korea in Final World Cup Warm-Up
Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, will play their final pre-World Cup friendly on Monday evening as they take on South Korea in Miami.
The match, scheduled for 22:00 GMT, marks the last opportunity for head coach Kwesi Appiah to fine-tune his squad ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Ghana will be looking to bounce back from their narrow 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands in their previous warm-up fixture.
Captain Asamoah Gyan and his teammates will aim to build momentum and sharpen their tactics against a disciplined South Korean side. The encounter also provides a final chance to assess team cohesion and individual form before the Black Stars embark on what promises to be a challenging group stage campaign.
Ghana has been drawn into Group G alongside heavyweights Germany and Portugal, as well as familiar rivals the United States — a team they defeated in the last two World Cups. It is widely considered one of the tournament’s most difficult groups.
This will be Ghana’s third consecutive World Cup appearance. The West African nation made a historic run to the quarter-finals in 2010 in South Africa, narrowly missing out on a semi-final spot after a dramatic penalty shootout loss to Uruguay.
The squad, blending experienced players like Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, and Gyan with emerging talents such as André Ayew and Christian Atsu, is hoping to replicate or surpass that impressive achievement in Brazil.
The Black Stars are expected to depart for Brazil shortly after Monday’s match, with their opening game scheduled against the United States on 16 June.
