The Polish national football team finds itself without a coach as of Tuesday evening, following the dismissal of Waldemar Fornalik by the Federation. The decision comes after Poland’s elimination from the World Cup qualification race, failing to advance from a challenging group that included England (qualified), Ukraine (play-off), and Montenegro.

In a press release, the Federation stated, “Waldemar Fornalik has ceased to serve as national coach.” Fornalik’s departure follows Poland’s official elimination, having suffered defeats in Ukraine (1-0) and England (2-0) last Friday and Tuesday, respectively. Fornalik, who took charge in July 2012, sees his two-year tenure come to an end due to this setback.

Fornalik had succeeded Franciszek Smuda, who was dismissed after Poland’s elimination in the first round of Euro 2012, a tournament co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine. The process to appoint Fornalik’s successor is expected to take place in the coming days.
