Jérôme Valcke, the Secretary-General of FIFA, held a meeting in Lomé with the Ghanaian Minister of Sports and other officials. The purpose of the meeting was to assure them of the security guarantees provided by FIFA for the upcoming 2014 World Cup play-off match between Ghana and Egypt in Cairo.
This meeting was arranged after Ghana had written to FIFA requesting a security plan for the match in Cairo. The request came following a visit by Abedi Pelé to Zurich, recommended by John Mahama, the President of Ghana.
Valcke reassured Ghanaian officials that Egypt has taken the necessary measures to ensure the complete security of the delegation. The return match is scheduled to take place on November 19 in Cairo, with Ghana leading 6-1 after the first leg.
