FIFA Fan Fests Draw Over One Million Fans During World Cup

The FIFA Fan Fests held across Brazil have proven to be a resounding success, attracting more than one million football fans since the start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The 12 giant screen venues, located in major host cities, have provided an alternative way for supporters to experience the tournament away from the stadiums.

Following the three matches played on Tuesday, June 17, the cumulative attendance at these Fan Fests reached approximately 1.3 million people. This milestone highlights the immense popularity of the events, which have quickly become an essential part of the World Cup atmosphere.

For those unable to secure tickets to the matches themselves, the FIFA Fan Fests offer an unparalleled experience. Set in iconic and picturesque locations such as Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro, Farol de Barra in Salvador, and Iracema Beach in Fortaleza, fans gather not only to watch live screenings of the games but also to enjoy vibrant concerts and cultural performances.

Tuesday’s events drew a record crowd of around 430,000 fans across all 12 host cities, who relished both the football action and entertainment from top Brazilian artists alongside FIFA Commercial Affiliates.

Thierry Weil, FIFA’s Marketing Director, praised the Fan Fests as a “huge success” since the tournament’s inception. “It is a truly special experience to see football fans from all over the world come together to celebrate the most exciting event in world football,” Weil said. He also expressed gratitude to the host cities and sponsors for their crucial role in delivering these festive venues. “They have provided fantastic spaces where fans can celebrate football together, in an event that is now an integral part of the FIFA World Cup.”

Since their introduction in 2002, FIFA Fan Fests have become an anticipated feature of the World Cup, creating a communal space for supporters to unite and enjoy the spectacle regardless of whether they are inside the stadium. This year’s events have further cemented their place in World Cup culture, enhancing the overall fan experience and contributing to the festive spirit throughout Brazil.

As the tournament progresses, the Fan Fests continue to draw passionate crowds, underscoring the universal appeal of the World Cup and the power of football to bring people together across diverse backgrounds and locations.
