The Portuguese national team is currently positioned for a spot in the 2014 World Cup play-offs after a draw against Israel (1-1). Despite this result, Portugal moved into second place in Group F, aided by Russia’s dominant victory over Luxembourg (4-0).
Cristiano Ronaldo, expressing his thoughts on the upcoming qualifying round, stated that he would prefer to avoid facing the French team. The 2008 Ballon d’Or winner considers France to be the strongest team at the moment and wants to avoid them in the play-offs.
“Theoretically, the strongest selection is France. There could be a lot of interest surrounding this match, which is why it’s a draw I’m completely dismissing. If there is a team I don’t want to play against, it’s France, for several reasons. But I’m not going to talk about that because I could be suspended,” Ronaldo remarked.
