François Michelet Assong, a sports law consultant, has expressed skepticism about Cameroon’s qualification for the 2014 World Cup. He argues that until the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) delivers a verdict on Cape Verde’s appeal (after their disqualification in favor of Tunisia), Cameroon cannot be considered officially qualified. Even after the World Cup draw, he maintains that Cameroon’s presence in the group is “subject” to the CAS decision. Assong suggests that if CAS rules in favor of Cape Verde, Cameroon may have to replay the last round of qualifying against them.
