The first leg of the play-offs for the 2014 World Cup between Burkina Faso and Algeria ended with a 3-2 victory for Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou. The match was described as somewhat crazy, with both teams delivering an intense contest. Burkina Faso secured the win, including a decisive goal from a questionable penalty.

However, for the upcoming second leg scheduled at the Moustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida, Algeria faces challenges with the suspension of Essaïd Belkalem and Adlène Guedioura, who were both cautioned in the first leg. Their absence will likely prompt coach Vahid Halilhodžić to make changes to the starting XI and adopt a different tactical approach.

On the Burkinabé side, there are also concerns about absentees due to card accumulation, including Mohamed Koffi. Additionally, central defender Baky Koné, who suffered a thigh strain and exited the first leg in the 7th minute, is uncertain for the return match, with reports suggesting he could be sidelined for approximately five weeks due to the injury. The absence of key players could impact both teams’ strategies and lineups in the crucial second leg.
