FIFA has officially announced the draw dates for the third round of the African qualifiers and the European play-offs for the 2014 World Cup. The draw for the African play-offs will take place on September 16 in Cairo, Egypt. This draw will come one week after the conclusion of the group stages.
In the Africa zone, the third round will involve the first 10 teams from each group, and the play-offs will be determined through two-match confrontations. The outcome of these matches will determine the five African countries that will qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
FIFA also mentioned that the five best-placed countries in the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Rankings, to be published on September 12, will be seeded for the play-offs, adding an extra layer of anticipation to the draw.
