To ensure that Nigerian players receive their bonuses during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil without any issues, the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has presented a budget of $12 million to Parliament. This budget is intended to cover the expenses related to the participation of the Super Eagles in the tournament.
According to the proposed budget, players will receive bonuses for each match won during the group stages, starting at $10,000 per player. The bonus amount will increase as the team progresses in the tournament: $12,000 in the round of 16, $15,000 in the quarter-finals, $20,000 in the semi-finals, and $30,000 in the final.
Despite these assurances, there have been concerns about the fulfillment of promises made to players in the past, particularly after the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, where many promises of rewards were not honored. To avoid a similar situation, the NFF is taking proactive measures to secure the necessary funding for the players’ bonuses during the World Cup. Additionally, promises of rewards from businessmen, such as Aliko Dangote, further underscore the importance of ensuring that players receive their dues in a timely manner.
