Cameroon Into Semifinals of Women’s AFCON After Second Win
Cameroon have become the second team to book their place in the semifinals of the 9th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, following their second consecutive win in the group stage.
On Wednesday, the Indomitable Lionesses defeated Algeria 2-0, with both goals coming from star striker Deborah Enganamouit, who was deservedly named Player of the Match.
Algeria, fresh off a surprise win over Ghana in their opening game, failed to replicate that success against a dominant Cameroonian side. The result eliminates Algeria from contention for the knockout stages.
Meanwhile, in the other match of the group:
-
Ghana and South Africa played to a 1-1 draw.
-
Octovia Nogwanya gave South Africa an early lead.
-
Elizabeth Cudjoe equalized just before halftime for the Black Queens.
With Cameroon through, the final round of group matches will determine who joins them in the knockout phase.
